Proper measuring and installation for different window blinds
Buying new window blinds can be tricky if you don't have some useful guidance to follow, and playing it by ear won't probably bring the final look and functionality you might have hoped for. Design and pattern aren't everything when it comes to these two factors, properly taking measurements and installing the blinds are equally important.
Most blinds websites provide online measuring instructions so that the customer handles the measuring step in a correct way. After deciding upon the desired blind design, as there are plenty of options available on the market (roller, vertical, roman, venetian, curtains etc.), the customer is advised to reach out for the measuring instructions corresponding to the design that has been chosen.
Appropriate measuring is necessary in order to avoid feeling disappointed with your purchase and left with little chances of having a remake of the blind if incorrect sizes have been provided in the case of made to measure blinds.
Improper sizing can lead to small, but unfortunate gaps at the edges where light can seep through, also affecting energy efficiency, or leave you with an unwanted blind if it doesn't fit within the window casing.
Talking of fitting, there are two common types of installation : inside and outside the window recess. Window measuring and blinds mounting are highly interdependent processes.
For example, in our company, if you choose to have an inside the recess fitting, that means that a deduction of 10-12mm to the width will be made. An overlap of 75mm on both width and drop is recommended for an outside the recess mounting. This applies for roman blinds, venetian, wooden and vertical blinds. To mount roller blinds inside the recess, a deduction of 3mm to the measurements you give us will be made, and outside the recess the blind's width does not suffer any changes.
Measure in three places both vertically and horizontally. Always order the smallest width measured at both top and bottom and drop measured both left and right. It is recommended to use the longest vertical measurement and the shortest horizontal measurement. Take the measurements to the nearest millimeter without making any deductions or rounding the number up or down.
In the case of curtains, to find out the width measure the curtain track or pole, and not the window recess, as for the drop, just envision where you want your curtain to start and to finish, and that is basically the length of the curtain. Bear in mind that the drop also depends on the type of heading.
In essence measuring instructions are the same with variations in explaining on different sites. If you feel uncertain, simply go knocking on a friend's door to ask for help or request Customer Service advise. Remember, measuring and determining the mount is the first step when wanting to get window coverings, attaching the brackets and installing the headrail and valance are the next two steps after purchase.
Moving onto fitting, it all starts by making marks with a pencil in the spots where you want to place the brackets and where you will be drilling the pilot holes. The holes are meant for the screws. Snap the valance clips in place that are used to attach the valance to the headrail.
Place the headrail into the brackets and then attach the valance. These are in short instructions for venetian, roman and vertical blinds, for extensive and detailed installation guidelines please go on the exact category's page.
